The word themes
Every Spellhunt puzzle has a theme, and every word on its list belongs to it. There are 40 themes, each with its own list of 63 to 88 words, about 2,700 words in all.
How the themes work
When a puzzle is made, it picks its words from one theme's list: 9 for the Daily, and anywhere from 6 to 15 in the campaign depending on the difficulty. The theme's name appears with the puzzle. In a boss or Hidden puzzle, where you don't see the words themselves, the theme is your best clue: in a Camping boss, five blanks might well be TENTS or TARPS.
A few rules keep the lists friendly:
- Words are 4 to 10 letters long.
- They're everyday words. Puzzles only use words that rank among the most common in English, so you won't be asked for something only a specialist knows.
- No names of people, places or brands.
- The lists are checked for rude or unpleasant words.
The same word can appear in more than one theme. BREEZE fits Ocean, Weather and Beach day, and APRON fits Kitchen, Bakery and Barbecue.
